Building Skills, Growing Jobs

Supporting jobs in NSW is our top priority – and quality education and training is the key to a better job, a better career and a better pay packet.

Under the Liberals, youth unemployment has skyrocketed, growing to over 16 per cent in parts of Western Sydney. We need to do more to give young people and those who have difficulty securing employment the skills that will help them get a fulfilling job.

That’s why a Labor Government will introduce new ratios for NSW Government building and civil construction contracts.

Under the Building Skills, Growing Jobs policy, Labor will require 15 per cent of work on NSW Government building and civil construction projects valued over $500,000 to be allocated for apprentices, trainees, Indigenous Australians and the long term unemployed.

The policy will reserve thousands of jobs and training opportunities for local workers – many from disadvantaged backgrounds – providing invaluable experience that will last a lifetime.
