Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson can reveal the NSW Government is shutting the Service NSW “Pop Up” store in the Stockland Shellharbour Shopping Centre.
The store was a small consolation for local residents following the closure of the Shellharbour Motor Registry in late 2015.
However, the store will now been removed without replacement. This decision has involved no community consultation and is a shocking betrayal of local residents.
Shellharbour constituents will now be forced to access Service NSW exclusively online or travel to Warrawong or Wollongong Service NSW Centres to renew their vehicle registration, order replacement licences, apply for a NSW Seniors Card or enrol to vote.
Under the changes, Shellharbour will become the only state electorate in the Illawarra region to be left without access to a NSW Service centre.
A number of local residents have utilised the pop up store since it opened. In the first four months alone, the store catered to over 8,700 customers.
Quotes attributable to Anna Watson MP:
“My electorate has once again been abandoned by this Government. First the Government flogged off the local motor registry in a blatant cash grab – and now they can’t even stand by their consolation prize.
“I’m concerned this closure will mean some people simply won’t be able to access the services provided by Service NSW. The elderly, the disabled and people who can’t access transport have all utilised this service. The Government just doesn’t understand that our community needs this local service.
“Gareth Ward is meant to be the region’s voice in the Berejiklian Government, but unfortunately he’s nowhere to be seen on this issue. Maybe if the Premier gave Gareth a seat around the Cabinet table, he’d be more effective at his job.”
