Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson MP, has welcomed funding for the upgrade of school zone signs in the Shellharbour Electorate.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is set to upgrade school zones signs at 400 schools across New South Wales, including two schools within the Shellharbour electorate.
“New flashing signs will be installed at Lake Illawarra South Public School and the Shellharbour Anglican College in Dunmore” said Ms Watson.
Work will include removing and replacing the existing static signs with school zone signs with flashing lights that meet the latest Roads and Maritime design installation specifications and standards.
Installing these flashing lights in schools zones has been shown to improve driver awareness of the need to drive at a lower speed to ensure the safety of children and others coming and going from the school area.
“We all know that school zones can get busy, particularly during peak times, so it’s reassuring to know that these new flashing signs are being rolled out at schools across NSW, ensuring the safety of school children and pedestrians” said Ms Watson
Work is scheduled to take place from Monday 22 May 2017 and is expected to be completed by Thursday 22 June 2017.
The new flashing signs will be installed and tested at a time outside of school zone operational hours. Once the new signs are working the old signs will be removed.
