Draft Illawarra Growth and Infrastructure Plan

Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson has today dismissed the State Government’s draft Illawarra Growth and Infrastructure Plan as just another announcement of plans-with-more plans, with no funding attached to it.

“If these so-called plans are to be taken seriously, they need to come with funding attached.

“I think the Illawarra community is becoming increasingly cynical about these plans and the way they are delivered by the NSW Liberals.

“The only things I can see in this draft plan are more plans for just more plans.

“For example, the West Dapto, Tallawarra and Calderwood release areas are now going to have developed a so-called Infrastructure Coordination Plan.

“All of the road infrastructure projects listed in the draft plan, such as the Albion Park Rail Bypass, has been put off for up to a 10 year time-frame for funding under the NSW Liberals.

“There is only a passing reference to the upgrade of Shellharbour Hospital, but again no indication of a time-frame for any funding.

“I think many stakeholders are going to be very disappointed by the release of this draft plan”, she said.

Ms Watson also highlighted that the draft plan included the establishment of yet another bureaucracy – the Illawarra Regional Growth and Infrastructure Plan Advisory Group.

“For a Liberal Government which has a philosophy based on small government and less regulation, this draft plan shows they love red tape and more bureaucracy”, she said.
