MEDIA RELEASE

The Minister for Education must explain the funding loss of $20,330 between two local schools in the Shellharbour electorate following the release of details of schools funding across the State, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, said today.

The Government’s figures show that Oak Flats Public School and Lake Illawarra South Public School will each receive a fall in funding from 2014 needs based funding.

Oak Flats Public School will receive nearly $4,000 less and Lake Illawarra South Public School will receive just over $16,000 less in funding next year.

“Neither of these two schools are so-called rich schools and every single dollar counts in the education of children in these two schools.

“Every other school in my electorate will receive an increase in funding next year, which I wholeheartedly welcome.

“I have today written to the Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli MP, asking for an urgent explanation as to why both the Oak Flats Public School and Lake Illawarra South Public School have received cuts to their funding next year”, Ms Watson said.
