New bus service to University still being finalised 6 months on

Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson has called on the State Government to get a move on for the new bus service from Dapto to the University of Wollongong, first announced six months ago, but yet to be finalised.

“This new bus service linking the growth area of Dapto to the University of Wollongong was announced in the June Budget by the Minister for Transport.

“Six months later, there is still no detail on the service, its proposed route, or a timetable.

“This is despite the State Government claiming the new service will be available from ‘early 2015’”, she said.

Ms Watson and the Member for Keira, Ryan Park MP, have both lobbied the State Government for a new bus service linking the southern Illawarra region to the University of Wollongong, and welcomed the State Government’s announcement in June.

“Both Ryan Park and I have been keen to ensure there are more public transport options for students from Dapto to access the University of Wollongong.

“Taking cars off the road from students living in the growth part of the southern Illawarra may help alleviate the traffic congestion and parking troubles in Keiraville.

“The State Government needs to get a move on finalising this new service, which was announced six months ago now”, she said.
