New Dapto school flashing light installed behind a tree

MEDIA RELEASE

The State Government has installed a new school zone flashing light behind a tree outside Lakelands Public School at Dapto, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, said today.

“The tree currently obscures the new school safety zone flashing light in one direction along Lakelands Drive.

“Two new flashing lights have been installed along the route approaching the Lakelands Public school from the east and west of Lakelands Drive.

“One has been erected within full sight with no obstructions.

“The other, has been erected behind a tree, with the new flashing lights obscured by the tree.

“I am calling on the Minister to fix this problem and to work out why simple common-sense was not used by whoever installed this particular flashing light.

“Obviously the tree needs to be significantly pruned, or removed, or the flashing light needs to be re-erected at a place where there is no obstruction and a clear line of sight along Lakelands Drive”, she said.

Ms Watson welcomed the announcement last week that new flashing lights would be installed outside Lakelands Public School.

“Nothing is more important than ensuring the safety of school children on the pedestrian and street routes to and from schools.

“Common sense should prevail that you don’t erect a flashing light behind a tree that obscures the whole point of erecting the sign in the first place”, Ms Watson said.
