Retirement of Deputy Premier

Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson today wished the Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner, a happy retirement from politics, but said he was no friend of the Illawarra region.

“The Deputy Premier has certainly not been a friend to the Illawarra region in the portfolio responsibilities has held since March 2011.

“Andrew Stoner is responsible for consistently snubbing the Wollongong local government area under the Resources for Regions program.

“Time and again the applications lodged by Wollongong City Council under the program have been snubbed with no explanation or justification.

“Mr Stoner is also responsible for abolishing the Lake Illawarra Authority and leaving the future of the management of Lake Illawarra in confused, bureaucratic limbo.

“While I do wish Mr Stoner well in his retirement from politics, he was certainly no friend to the Illawarra region during his tenure as Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services”, Ms Watson said.
