The only politicians telling whoppers over the Shellharbour City Hub proposal belong to the Liberal Party, Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson said today.
Ms Watson was responding to a press release issued overnight by Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward.
“Gareth Ward and his Liberal ‘mini-me’ candidate in Shellharbour can’t bandy about slogans forever.
“They both have a duty to tell the people of Shellharbour how they will both stop the Hub project from going ahead.
“Gareth Ward’s own Liberal Minister for Local Government has said he can’t, and won’t, stop the Hub.
“So how is Gareth Ward and his ‘mini-me’ candidate in Shellharbour going to do it?
“If you’re going to ask people to vote for you on this issue as Mr Ward has, he has a duty to tell them precisely how and when he’s going to stop the project.
“Neither the Minister, Gareth Ward or I have any legislative or regulatory power to intervene to stop this project.
“The only people serving up whoppers in this debate are in the Liberal Party.
“And frankly, the whoppers are simply better at Hungry Jacks”, she said.
Ms Watson said that there are only two Labor representatives out of a total of seven Councillors on Shellharbour Council.
“I know Mr Ward has problems with multiplication, but even the kindy kids at Mt Terry Public School can tell him that two is a smaller number than five”, she said.
Ms Watson has said consistently that the Shellharbour City Hub proposal will only ever be determined by the seven elected Councillors on Shellharbour City Council.
“If the people of Shellharbour City oppose or support the Hub project, they should contact their elected Councillors expressing their views because only seven people will ever decide its future because the State Government and State Parliament can’t do so”, she said.
