Bluescope Steel’s statement to the ASX released this afternoon is as clear as mud, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson said, as she repeated calls on management to come clean on the future of the steel producer in the Illawarra region.
“This statement is typical of the way Bluescope Steel seems to operate.
“As one of the region’s biggest employers, management has an obligation to come clean on its future as a steel producer in the Illawarra.
“The way this whole thing has been handled by the company is simply appalling.
“What the region wants to have is a clear plan and statement from the company about the continued operation of its steel works.
“Bluescope Steel appears to be using current enterprise agreement negotiations to bludgeon and frighten its workforce.
“This strategy is pathetically immoral.
“The cone of silence must be lifted and Bluescope Steel management must rule out the speculation that its plant in the Illawarra will close.
“Just saying “no decision has been made” isn’t good enough.
“We deserve to be treated better than this by management after all of the decades of hard-work by Bluescope employees, and assistance Government have provided to the company”, Ms Watson said.
