ILLAWARRA INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT FUND – $75 million investment in four new programs

JOINT MEDIA RELEASE

A Foley Labor Government will set aside $75 million into four new Illawarra programs covering flood mitigation, mainstreet improvement, surf club enhancement and a new local community infrastructure fund, Shadow Minister for the Illawarra, Ryan Park MP, announced today.

The funding for the new programs will be part of the $380 million Illawarra Infrastructure Investment Fund announced last month by the Labor Leader, Luke Foley, during a visit to Wollongong.

“The Illawarra Infrastructure Investment Fund delivers a fair deal to the people of the Illawarra from the sale of the Port of Port Kembla” Mr Park said.

“The Port is a regional asset and we deserved a fair slice of the cake and we simply never got that fair deal under the Liberals” he said.

Mr Park said that this announcement was a great opportunity for the Illawarra and delivered a fair deal from the sale of a regional asset

“These four new funding programs covering flood mitigation, mainstreet improvements, surf club enhancements and a new community infrastructure fund are a substantial investment by Labor for infrastructure projects across the Illawarra.

“As the Shadow Minister for the Illawarra, I was determined and I am proud that I, on behalf of all Illawarra local MP’s and Labor candidates, have been able to secure this substantial investment which will benefit the Illawarra region” he said.

Member for Wollongong, Noreen Hay, said, “This announcement is a great opportunity for the Illawarra and delivers a fair deal from the sale of a regional asset located in my electorate, especially the mainstreet improvement program.”

Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, said, “All of these new funding programs provide the Illawarra with the means to address specific projects which are vitally important to all our local communities.”

Labor candidate for Kiama, Glenn Kolomeitz, said, “I’m really excited about the surf club enhancement funding that will be available.  The people of Kiama love their beaches and there a few surf clubs in my electorate which will clearly welcome this investment by Labor.”

Labor candidate for Heathcote, Maryanne Stuart, said, “This announcement will benefit the northern Illawarra, especially in resolving serious flood mitigation issues.
