Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, has today attacked chaotically run companies for causing job losses in the Illawarra region following an announcement by Wollongong Coal that it would place its remaining coal asset at Russell Vale into care and maintenance.
“I am absolutely incensed that some of the major employers in the Illawarra are so chaotically administered, that workers through no fault of their own were copping job losses in the neck.
“Wollongong Coal has quite frankly been a basket case ever since it was first established.
“The company’s coal mine at Wongawilli was itself placed into care and maintenance last year.
“102 workers were given the punt by Wollongong Coal management at the time.
“I am just so damn angry that this company has been so utterly mismanaged that chaotic management decisions have been ultimately thrust onto the shoulders of workers.
“The fat cats who run these companies seem to get away with the incompetence of their management decisions but the workers, their families and the local community cop it in the neck time and time, and time again”, she said.
