The Maldon Dombarton rail link project has been derailed after a Registration of Interest process found that two consortiums have had their expressions of interest ruled out by an independent evaluation committee within the Department of Transport, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson said today.

The Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, The Hon Duncan Gay MLC has informed all State Illawarra Members of Parliament by letter of the failure of the registration of interest process dated 25 November 2015.

“The Minister must explain what has gone so wrong in this process that the only two proponents who have expressed an interest in building, operating and maintaining the Maldon Dombarton rail link have been ruled out of contention.

“Why have the two consortiums who have expressed an interest in this crucial rail infrastructure been ruled out?

“The Minister says in his letter that they didn’t meet all of the “published evaluation criteria”.

“We need to know more about why and how the proponents didn’t meet the criteria.

“The registration of interest process has gone on for over 12 months and only ended in absolute failure

“The Minister needs to provide some answers and quickly and I am calling on him to do so immediately”, she said.
