The Shellharbour electorate will not get a new Service NSW Centre with the State Government confirming that people looking to access services can catch a bus to Warrawong or Kiama, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson revealed today.

Last month, the State Government announced it would close the Motor Registry offices at Shellharbour and Unanderra replacing them with a new Service NSW Centre at Warrawong.

“I’m sick and tired of these slicked-up-toffs from Sydney’s north-shore ignoring the challenges facing communities like mine in accessing basic government services.

“Their decisions have left a service black-hole in the southern Illawarra and the Minister’s only response has been to tell my constituents to ‘get on a bus’”, she said.

Ms Watson said that she had written to the Minister for Finance Dominic Perrottet MP seeking a face-to-face meeting so he could understand just how his decision not to locate a new Service NSW Centre in the Shellharbour electorate would disadvantage the Shellharbour and Dapto communities.

“I won’t stop pressuring the Minister to address a problem that he has created because he just doesn’t understand the needs of local regional communities like mine.

“There is simply no logic for the State Government to establish new Service NSW Centres in every local state electorate in the Illawarra region with the exception of Shellharbour.

“I am determined that my constituents won’t be treated like second class citizens by this State Government”, she said.
