The Minister for Skills John Barilaro has refused to meet with Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson on the future of the Dapto TAFE campus site following revelations last month that it was on a secret Cabinet sell-off hit list.
Ms Watson formally wrote to the Minister on 15 September requesting a face-to-face meeting to discuss the future of the Dapto TAFE campus, including having the site removed from the State Government’s secret sell-off hit list.
The Minister, in a letter this week, conceded that “Enrolments at Dapto Campus have declined significantly over the last five years” but remained silent on Ms Watson’s request for a meeting. Instead, the Minister suggests Ms Watson contact Illawarra TAFE Institute Director, Ms Dianna Murray.
“With respect to Ms Murray, she won’t be making the final decision on whether or not to sell-off the Dapto TAFE campus. That responsibility lies with the Minister.
“This Government always seeks to hide its pathetic decisions behind its bureaucrats”, she said.
Ms Watson said that while a final decision had yet to be made on the future of the Dapto TAFE site, there was still hope that the campus could be removed from the State Government’s sell-off hit list.
“I remain determined to see the Dapto TAFE campus site removed from the hit list.
“It must remain an education precinct not another cash cow for the State Government’s greedy coffers and developer mates”, she said.
Ms Watson said that she would instead be meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, Gareth Ward MP, on Wednesday to discuss the Dapto TAFE campus site’s future.
