Traffic signals are to be installed at the Lake Entrance Road/Pioneer Drive, Oak Flats round-about following pressure from the Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have confirmed.
Modelling conducted by RMS earlier this year has found that the round-about in the area is reaching traffic capacity, increasing unnecessary congestion.
The RMS concluded that the upgrade of the busy intersection to full traffic signals will improve traffic flow for at least the next ten years.
RMS will now prepare a proposal for funding from the State Government to have the traffic signals installed by 2017.
Ms Watson said she was very pleased that the traffic modelling conducted by the RMS had confirmed her observations that traffic congestion at the busy intersection needed to be addressed.
“I drive along there every day and you can see that congestion, especially in the afternoons, is just getting worse and worse.
“I’m very pleased that we will soon have operating traffic signals at this intersection ensuring smoother traffic flow for motorists using this area”, she said.
Traffic signals already operate at the round-about located along the Princes Highway/Illawarra Road northern entrance to Albion Park Rail.
