Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson has today called on the Premier to require all Parliamentary Secretaries to publish their meeting diaries to ensure transparency in their meetings with lobbyists.
“The Premier has required all Ministers to comply with the standard of publishing their meeting diaries.
“But there is a glaring, gaping hole that leaves out the diaries of his Government’s Parliamentary Secretaries.
“We simply do not know who is meeting with the Government’s Parliamentary Secretaries and why because Parliamentary Secretaries are not required to disclose these meetings.
“I am calling on the Premier to tighten up this gaping loop-hole”, she said.
Ms Watson said that the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has also suggested that Parliamentary Secretaries should be included in the disclosure of meetings with lobbyists.
Ms Watson’s call, if adopted by the Premier, would require the Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, Gareth Ward MP, to publish his meeting diaries on a regular basis.
Ms Watson has also asked the Premier a Question on Notice on the accountability of his Parliamentary Secretaries, which must be answered within 35 days.
