PREMIER DOESN’T TRUST OWN MINISTERS TO DELIVER ELECTION COMMITMENTS FOR THE ILLAWARRA

MEDIA RELEASE

The Premier doesn’t appear to trust his own Ministers to deliver election commitments to the Illawarra and only appointed Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP to hold them “to account”, Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson said today.

“This is an extraordinary admission from the Premier that he doesn’t appear to trust his own Ministers to deliver on election commitments made to the Illawarra in March.

“Mr Ward’s only role is to shadow his own Ministers to ensure they follow through with election commitments to the region.

“Mr Ward has essentially been appointed by his leader to join the Opposition in holding Ministers “to account”.

The Premier said that the only duties of his regional Parliamentary Secretaries were:

Parliamentary Secretaries will report to Cabinet regularly, and will hold Ministers to account for the delivery of the Coalition’s election commitments across the region.

Ms Watson said that the Premier’s answer revealed that Mr Ward’s responsibility as Parliamentary Secretary is very narrow, which is contrary to the perception Mr Ward is trying to generate in the community.

“Mr Ward is trying to give the impression that he makes all the decisions for the State Government in the region.

“But the Premier has confirmed otherwise.

“He’s a glorified letter-signer with no decision-making powers at all.

“The Premier has just popped Mr Ward’s gigantic ego-filled, hot-air balloon”, she said.
