Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson has today questioned the need for yet another talkfest by the Federal and State Governments on how to address the steel crisis in the Illawarra.
Her comments follow a press release issued by the Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward MP today which indicates that another talkfest has been convened by the new Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science on Monday, 26 October 2015.
“This latest talkfest appears to be just another delay on addressing the steel crisis by the Federal and State Governments.
“We are all aware of the issues facing the steel industry.
“We don’t need more talkfests – we need some very clear action by Federal and State Ministers.
“BlueScope Steel, the unions and other regional stakeholders have made very clear what is required by the government at State and Federal level.
“State and Federal Ministers made very clear commitments following the stakeholder round-table in Wollongong over a month ago now.
“I think stakeholders in the Illawarra will simply be shaking their heads in disappointment that all we’re getting from State and Federal Governments is more pointless meetings.
“It’s time for a little less conversation and more action”, she said.
Ms Watson said that Illawarra State and Federal MPs had outlined a 10 Point Plan to Secure Illawarra Jobs on the 4 September.
