Despite an election promise by the State Government, it has today been revealed that the business case for the Shellharbour Hospital upgrade has still not been endorsed by the Health Department, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, said today.

“It is simply extraordinary that the business case for the Shellharbour Hospital upgrade has yet to be formally endorsed by the Health Department.

“Yet the Liberals made a $250 million election commitment to fund the upgrade.

“I would have assumed – given the promise was made – that the State Government would have signed off on all of these key details before now”, she said.

Ms Watson said she was concerned that the business case was still being “refined”.

“These clever bureaucratic words are code for “we haven’t decided what services and facilities will end up in the hospital upgrade”.

“This could mean that what the State Government promised would happen in March, may not end up being delivered as promised.

“I will continue to hold the State Government accountable for the full delivery of the upgrade of Shellharbour Hospital as it promised during the election”, she said.

Ms Watson asked the Minister for Health a Question on Notice on 6 May 2015 seeking further details on the plans to upgrade Shellharbour Hospital, including a start and finish date for construction.

The Minister responded to the question yesterday.
