The Shellharbour Motor Registry at Stocklands Shellharbour will officially close on Thursdaywith the State Government still refusing to establish a new Service NSW Centre in the Shellharbour electorate, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson said today.

“The State Government will close the Shellharbour Motor Registry on Thursday but isn’t replacing it with anything else within my electorate.

“Instead the State Government expects my constituents to catch inadequate public transport or drive to Warrawong or Kiama to access basic public government services.

“Every state electorate in the Illawarra region has or will soon have a Service NSW Centre allowing residents to access basic government services in the areas where they actually live.

“Residents in the Shellharbour electorate will be denied access to the same basic services available to every other community in the Illawarra region.

“The State Government is treating my constituents like second class citizens.

“Sydney North-shore based Ministers simply do not understand regional communities.

“I will continue to lobby the Minister to give my constituents a fair go by convincing the Government that we need a new Service NSW Centre to be established in the Shellharbour electorate”, she said.

Ms Watson is collecting individually signed letters from her constituents addressed to the Minister demanding the State Government establish a Service NSW Centre in the Shellharbour electorate, receiving nearly 300 so far.

Ms Watson also raised the issue in State Parliament on 12 November 2015 during a Private Members Statement.
