Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson has today accused the State Government of playing secret squirrel on the future of the Dapto TAFE campus after the Minister for Skills John Barilaro MP refused to provide student enrolment and staff levels in answer to a Question on Notice.

“As usual my Question on Notice asked for very specific information from the Minister.

“But the Minister has refused to provide any answers based on TAFE operating in a so-called “competitive environment”.

“The State Government is embarrassed by their pathetic record on Dapto TAFE campus.

“Over the last five years, both Ministers Piccoli and Barilaro have systematically gutted Dapto TAFE.

“When Labor left office in 2010, 658 students were enrolled at Dapto TAFE and there were 111 staff.

“After five years under the State Liberals, Dapto TAFE campus has not a single student on site and staff have been transferred to other TAFE Illawarra campuses in the region.

“This Minister just doesn’t have the guts to come clean and confirm what we already know: Dapto TAFE is a ghost town with tumble weeds blowing through it”, she said.

Ms Watson said that she now feared that the State Government is preparing to sell-off the Dapto TAFE campus to developers for housing purposes.

“The Minister has already confirmed that Dapto TAFE campus is being considered for a sale during Budget Estimates hearings last week.

“I have written to the Minister requesting a meeting as soon as possible.

“Dapto TAFE must remain an educational facility for the population growth areas of Dapto and West Dapto, and I’ll continue to fight for this outcome”, she said.
