WARD MUST FIGHT AGAINST CUTS TO DISABILITY HELP AT TAFE

MEDIA RELEASE

The State Government is planning to cut back assistance for students with a disability at Illawarra TAFE campuses, Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson said today.

“The Minister for Skills John Barilaro has been requested to sign off on the cuts by December.

“These proposed cuts to help for students with a disability in the region’s TAFE campuses are nothing short of disgraceful.

“I am calling on Gareth Ward, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, to publicly fight against the cuts his Government intends to impose, which will disadvantage students with a disability across the region’s TAFE campuses.

“Mr Ward knows first-hand the additional challenges faced by students with a disability in undertaking study.

“These proposed cuts to assistance for students with a disability in TAFE across the Illawarra are just mean, greedy, penny-pinching from the State Government.

“The Minister should rule out imposing these cuts to disability assistance in Illawarra TAFE campuses and I expect Mr Ward to put that position plainly to his Minister”, she said.

The proposed cuts include teaching staff and teaching hours in disability, multicultural, Aboriginal, careers counselling and library and information services at TAFE campuses across the Illawarra region.
