The State Government has been formally requested to strike Dapto TAFE campus from its Cabinet-In-Confidence sell-off hit list in a Notice of Motion moved by Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson in State Parliament this morning.
Ms Watson’s motion:
- Notes that the Dapto TAFE campus is slated for sale by the State Government.
- Notes that Dapto TAFE in the last year of the former Labor Government contained 658 enrolled students, 111 staff and a range of services.
- Calls on the Minister to remove Dapto TAFE campus from the Government’s sell-off hit list immediately.
Ms Watson also said she cautiously welcomed suggestions from the State Government that no final decision had yet been made on the proposal to sell-off Dapto TAFE campus.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward MP has publicly indicated that:
“There has been no decision to sell Dapto TAFE, at this stage.”
(Illawarra Mercury, 15 September 2015).
“I cautiously note that the State Government appears to be backing off including Dapto TAFE campus in its sell-off hit list contained in a leaked Cabinet-In-Confidence paper.
“I will be far more comfortable with the Government’s words over the last 24-hours when actually see it written in blood that the Dapto TAFE campus has been struck from the sell-off hit list.
“My motion this morning is about ensuring that the Dapto TAFE campus remains an education precinct and is not sold-off to developers for housing purposes” she said.
Ms Watson said that she had written to the Minister for Skills John Barilaro MP seeking a face-to-face meeting as soon as possible to discuss the future of Dapto TAFE campus.
