After two years, the State Government has finally snuck out a pathetic five-page ‘annual’ update of itsIllawarra Regional Transport Plan, Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson said today.
“This is the most pathetic and flimsy pieces of paper I have seen any Government release on its transport priorities for the region.
“It was placed on the Transport for NSW website under the cover of darkness with no announcement by either the Minister for Transport, Andrew Constance or the Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Duncan Gay.
“So embarrassing is the ‘annual’ five page update – two years in the making – that not even Gareth Ward – never shy of media attention – has been seen anywhere near the pathetic document.
“It’s such a pathetic document the only thing you’d use it for is to line the bottom of a budgie cage”, she said.
Ms Watson said that the original 44-page Illawarra Regional Transport Plan released in March 2014 promised the Government would provide:
…an annual update of the Regional Transport Plan including detailed reports (my emphasis) on the progress of implementing the initiatives contained in the plan. (Page 42, Illawarra Regional Transport Plan, March 2014).
“When the original Plan was released, ironically on 1 April 2014, I indicated that every project in the Plan was either old or another re-announcement.
“This pathetic five page ‘annual’ update simply confirms that the criticism Labor made of that 2014 Plan was spot on.
“This ‘annual’ update says absolutely nothing about the Albion Park Rail Bypass, despite the Premier telling State Parliament on 10 March that the project was “all underway and happening”,” Ms Watson said.
