I have today written to the Premier of New South Wales Mike Baird MP requesting that he visit my electorate – the home of the world famous Dapto Dogs – to meet face-to-face with greyhound racing participants and listen to their concerns.
The Premier’s decision to shut down the greyhound racing industry in New South Wales from 1 July 2017has gutted Dapto Dogs’ participants.
The Government’s inability to explain or provide any firm details about its transition plan has so many people involved in the greyhound racing industry in the Illawarra feeling uncertain about their future and the future of their greyhounds.
It is all very well for the Premier to announce decisions by press release; it is another for Mr Baird to actually have the guts to face people on the ground and understand the depth of feeling from those directly affected by his decision to shut down this industry.
The Premier made this decision arbitrarily and without any consultation.
I request Mr Baird make himself available to visit the Dapto Dogs as soon as possible.
