I spoke against and voted to oppose the New South Wales Government’s Greyhound Racing Prohibition Bill 2016.

The Dapto Greyhound Racing Club – the world famous Dapto Dogs – in based in my electorate.

44 small businesses and 15 charity and community organisations are associated with the Dapto Dogs.

These all now face an uncertain future because of the Government’s ban on greyhound racing.

The Government’s legislation has the stench of hypocrisy that hangs on every word, clause and page of its Bill.

I could not support its passage.

NSW Labor currently has its own Bill in the State Parliament.

Our Bill would:

  • Impose tough, high standards on animal welfare practices in the greyhound racing industry, including life bans and goal for any person found guilty of live baiting;
  • Separate the commercial and regulatory functions in the greyhound racing industry, and;
  • Protect land associated with greyhound racing from any sell-off unless it has the approval of the State Parliament.
