New Australian Bureau of Statistics Regional Population growth statistics released overnight confirm that the Illawarra recorded the largest population expansion in the rest of the state with nearly 3500 extra people making it home in 2014-15, Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson said today.
“This population expansion is just another indicator on why the State Government needs to get a move on in delivering the $800 million investment it promised at the election last year to the southern Illawarra region.
“We need a start to the upgrade of the Shellharbour Hospital in this year’s state budget – by 1 July 2016.
“We need to start construction of the Albion Park Rail Bypass by 1 July 2017.
“The State Government can’t stick its head in the sand anymore in the provision of improved health and road transport infrastructure to the southern Illawarra.
“We simply cannot wait until the eve of another state election in 2019 for these two projects, worth $800 million in investment, to start flowing”, she said.
