NSW Labor has consistently called for the State Government to start the upgrade of the Shellharbour Hospital in this year’s budget and to start construction of the Albion Park Rail Bypass by 1 July 2017, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson said today.
Ms Watson was commenting on a press release issued yesterday by Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward, which claimed that Labor was opposed to the projects.
“Mr Ward has more front than a David Jones store – we’re actually urging the State Government to get on with the job.
“I want to see $800 million flow into the Illawarra now.
“I’ve been calling on the State Government to start work on the upgrade of Shellharbour Hospital in this year’s June budget.
“I’ve been calling on the State Government to use the budget next year to start construction of the Albion Park Rail Bypass.
“I’ve moved motions in the State Parliament calling on the State Government to get these two projects moving.
“The State Government, and its Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, has continually refused to support my motions.
“In fact, Mr Ward has joined his Government personally voted against my motions on the floor of the State Parliament.
“The State Government has not provided any timetable for the start of the upgrade of Shellharbour Hospital.
“And, it says the start of the Albion Park Rail Bypass will only start in 2019 – in two years – on the eve of the next state election.
“The only thing holding back these two projects is the lack of will by Gareth Ward’s Government to get on with it”, Ms Watson said.
