Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian is visiting the Illawarra today to tour the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus and attend a business forum.
While in the region, the Treasurer could have a go at answering a simple question: why is the State Government refusing to invest $800 million in the southern Illawarra, which it promised 12 months ago until just weeks before the next state election in 2019?
Despite pressure from the Opposition, the Government still refuses to place a precise timetable on the agenda for the start of the $250 million upgrade of Shellharbour Hospital and $550 million construction of the Albion Park Rail bypass
Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson is calling on the Government to use its budgets over the next two years to start both of these infrastructure projects.
Comments attributable to Anna Watson:
“The Treasurer has a very good opportunity while visiting the Illawarra today to announce a firm commitment to using her next two Budgets to invest $800 million in infrastructure projects promised 12 months ago for the southern Illawarra.
“It’s time for the Treasurer to announce a very clear timetable on when work will start to upgrade Shellharbour Hospital and the construction of the Albion Park Rail bypass.
“If her visit to the region today is to be considered a success, the Treasurer should be committing to start work on the upgrade of Shellharbour Hospital in this year’s Budget and starting construction on the Albion Park Rail bypass in next year’s Budget.”
