The State Parliament has been enlisted to end the civil war between the Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward MP and the Federal Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis MP, over the funding of the Nowra Bridge.
Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, today moved a Notice of Motion on the floor of the Legislative Assembly:
I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move that this House notes that:
- Notes that the Federal Member for Gilmore has attacked the NSW Government for not doing the background work necessary to make federal funding possible for the Nowra Bridge.
- Notes that the Member for Kiama has resumed his war of words with the Liberal Member for Gilmore.
- Endorses the editorial published in the Illawarra Mercury on 26 October 2016 asserting “Highway funding ping-pong helps no one.”
- Calls on the Federal and State Liberals to end their civil war and fund the Nowra Bridge.
Comments attributable to Anna Watson MP:
“This civil war between Gareth Ward and Ann Sudmalis should not continue.
“He sees this civil war as a way of dumping Ms Sudmalis so he can transfer to the Federal Parliament in 2019.
“The people of the South Coast deserve better than a war of words between two political representatives of the same political party.”
