WARD MUST EAT HIS OWN WORDS ON STEEL

MEDIA RELEASE

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP should be eating hefty slices of humble pie today.

NSW Labor announced its Secure and Sustainable Steel Jobs package this morning.

Mr Ward criticised Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson MP in public comments published in the Illawarra Mercury on 18 November 2015 claiming:

The Member for Shellharbour should be honest with the fact her party will not take this to an election and that she has had no discussion with her leadership on this issue.

Ms Watson was the first Illawarra State MP to call for the use of 90 per cent Australian-made steel use in all State infrastructure projects during the steel industry crisis last year.

The Secure and Sustainable Steel Jobs announced today by Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for the Illawarra Ryan Park MP requires 90 per cent Australian-made steel use in publicly funded infrastructure projects among other initiatives.

Comments attributable to Anna Watson MP:

“Gareth Ward has always had a big mouth.

“Today he should fill it with a few hefty slices of humble pie.

“In co-operation with my Leader and Shadow Treasurer, Ryan Park, and the combined steel unions, I am absolutely delighted that  my calls for Australian-made steel use in infrastructure projects across NSW is now the centre piece of NSW Labor policy.”
