WILL GARETH WARD BACK FUNDS FOR DAPTO STATION COMMUTER CARPARK UPGRADE IN STATE BUDGET?

MEDIA RELEASE

Member for Shellharbour Anna Watson has taken up a call by Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast on WIN News last night to contact him for funding for the upgrade of the Dapto Station commuter carpark.

Ms Watson wrote to Gareth Ward today outlining the reasons why the Dapto Station commuter carpark upgrade was necessary.

This follows a visit by the Labor Deputy Leader and Shadow Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Michael Daley MP and Shadow Minister for Transport, Roads, Maritime and Freight, Jodi McKay MP to Dapto yesterday which highlighted the project.

Ms Watson also made representations to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance MP last year requesting the Government consider upgrading the carpark.

Ms Watson also asked the Minister a Question on Notice in the State Parliament on the issue in May 2015.  The Minister in response indicated:

An upgrade at Dapto Railway Station will be considered…

Quotes attributable to Anna Watson MP:

“The Dapto Station commuter carpark is bursting and must be upgraded.

“There is extensive overflow of vehicles along Station Street.

“The population of Dapto and West Dapto is expanding at a rapid pace.

“I’m not a bit interested in playing politics or worried about who cuts the ribbon for the upgrade.

“I want to make sure that commuters have access to an upgraded carpark at Dapto Station.

“I hope Mr Ward will join me in lobbying the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure for funds for an urgent upgrade to be allocated in this year’s state budget.”
