A Minns Labor Government will invest up to $400,000 to improve amenities at community sporting grounds across the Shellharbour electorate.

There are four Council owned community sporting grounds that will benefit from the funding. NSW Labor will deliver:

  1. Up to $200,000 for changeroom and amenity upgrades at Reed Park in Horsley (Wollongong City Council), home ground to many sporting clubs including Dapto Junior Rugby League and Dapto Canaries Cricket;
  2. Up to $100,000 for a picket style perimeter fence at Howard Fowles Oval in Lake Illawarra (Shellharbour City Council), home ground of the Lake Illawarra Cricket Club;
  3. Up to $50,000 for amenity upgrades at King Mickey Park in Warilla (Shellharbour City Council), home ground of the Warilla Wanderers Football Club;
  4. Up to $50,000 for lighting upgrades at Barrack Heights Sports Field (Shellharbour City Council), home ground of the Shellharbour Football Club.

Anna Watson, Member for Shellharbour, said:

“I am extremely pleased that a Minns Labor Government has committed up to $400,000 for upgrades to community sporting grounds across the Shellharbour electorate. Participation in community sport is a fantastic way to maintain social connections and improve physical and mental health and participants deserve facilities that allow them to play in a comfortable and safe environment.”

“Our fast-growing region has fallen behind when it comes to State funding for community sporting facilities. This commitment from Labor will get the ball rolling for long overdue upgrades after 12 years of neglect from the Liberal Government. There is more work to do before our fields and amenities are up to a reasonable standard, especially for female participants, and I will continue to fight for our fair share of funding for community sport infrastructure.”
