Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson MP, has welcomed the recent NSW Labor policy announcement to bring public housing maintenance, tenant management and construction together within a single one-stop agency, Homes NSW.
Homes NSW will be a merger of the Land and Housing Corporation, Aboriginal Housing Office and Department of Communities and Justice Housing.
“Almost every day, I receive heart breaking complaints from public housing tenants about the woeful state of their homes. From leaking pipes that create horrible mould to fences that should have been fixed years ago, it never ends. These tenants are often passed from one agency to another for months, waiting for the NSW Government to come and perform urgent maintenance on their homes.” Ms Watson said.
“This Liberal Government are happy to support a $22 million refurbishment of Parliament House, including works to prevent mould due to the health risks it creates, but couldn’t care less if mould impacts the health of public housing tenants. It’s all about looking after themselves and their mates. They just don’t care about anyone else.”
“After 12 years of neglect by the Liberal Government, there is hope on the horizon for public housing tenants in the Shellharbour electorate. Labor will streamline maintenance request processes and reduce the capacity for buck-passing.”
