The Shellharbour Local Woman of the Year for 2023 is Danna Nelse. Danna is a passionate community service worker at the Albion Park Rail Community Centre where she is the powerhouse behind the association and has led the team there for 33 years, her work provides a safe environment for both children and adults, providing a range of programs and activities for the local community.

In 2019 Danna was recognised for her service and was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her tireless work assisting disadvantaged residents of the Illawarra and lobbying on their behalf. Danna has been an active board member for multiple organisations including The Shellharbour Women for a Safer Community, Warilla Women for a safer community and The Illawarra Forum.

Danna’s extensive experience and expertise have positioned her to be an extremely influential force within the Shellharbour community ensuring people have access to quality services.
